DESCRIPTION:THEATRE IN PALM RESIDENCY PERFORMANCE\n“FACES TO THE SEA”\nFRIDAY\, 18 of OCTOBER 2024\n19.00 Welcome\n19.30 Performance\n20.00 Colloquium – Question & Answer\n  \nEspronceda Institute of Art & Culture and the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM – CSIC) are pleased to invite you to the presentation of the performance Faces to the Sea. \nAbstract: \nWith their backs to the wall.\nWith their faces to the sea. \nWhen the city grows\, it pushes out its borders and everything with it. Whatever doesn’t comply with the new order will be either consumed or annihilated. The people outside of the wall make the only possible choice – they follow the Spirit of the Sea into the waves to search for their new home. There\, in the underwater world\, they can find peace once again. But what happens when the city limits go beyond the borders of the land and into the waters? \nThe project is a part of the Theatre in Palm Residency researching the relationship between art and science. Using the power of myths and ancient storytelling\, it touches upon the topics of biodiversity\, interconnectivity\, and current ecological crises\, showing the invisible threads between the human and the marine ecosystem. SUMMARY:Treplev's Integral Performance - Workshop
DESCRIPTION:“Treplev’s Integral Performance” invites young professional actors\, as well as actors with stage experience and high school students who  are considering a career in acting and attend a theater college. The workshop is organized by Homemade Culture Association (Bucharest)\, in partnership with the independent theatre company Arte-Factum\, in the framework of European Theatre Lab by the  Theatre in Palm platform financed by Creative Europe. \n  \nTime and place\n11 October 2024\, 17:30- 21:30\nCentre of Culture and Art of Timis County\, room 34 (Timisoara\, str. E.Ungureanu nr.1). \n  \nWorkshop\nWe will explore the “theater-within-theater” moment in Chekhov’s The Seagull\, with a focus on Nina’s monologue written by Treplev\, and work on the actor-director relationship. \nThe workshop introduces actors to creative warm-up\, they will learn techniques that help actors get into a state of readiness\, they will analyze the text creatively to understand the intimate springs of the mechanism by which the previous situation influences the interpretation of the monologue and the following situation. \nDivided into groups\, the actors will direct their own monologue of Nina\, techniques that develop the creativity of actors will be practiced and original approach will be encouraged. \n  \nDirector\nThe workshop will be held by the director Levente Kocsàrdi\, as an initial stage for a show with the same title that he will stage next year: “We are especially interested in the tension between the two characters\, Treplev and Nina\, who are young artists\, at the beginning of their journey with new\, original ideas and well set\, conservative\, skeptical of everything new\, like the characters Arkadina and Trigorin.” \nLevente Kocsàrdi has 26 years of stage experience as an actor and director. He is the stage director of the independent company Arte-Factum and has been directing Arte-Factum Theatrical Research and Introspection Laboratory for eight years now\, which has involved more than 100 young actors and has produced several relevant independent theater productions.

Somebody else’s dream. \nThis show started at a cafe when we were talking about love just when love started to melt. \nThis show started when I bought this shirt “HALF LOST”\, without realising that words described my life at the moment. \nThis show started at a crossroad named ”Seven ways”\, where I took a decision the changed my life. I know you think this is fiction. But I tell you: everything is real\, it is all în my head”. \nÎntr-o zi (Some day) is a one man show about confusion and personal searches\, about fulfilled and un fulfilled dreams. About desire and lack of desire. DESCRIPTION:(Alla suomeksi) \nWelcome to the Gallery of the Forgotten workshop\nThe participatory workshop we will create an installation and discuss social inclusiveness. The installation will be created using objects and things brought to the workshop. \nPreliminary task\nBring to the workshop an object or a thing that symbolizes a forgotten thing\, a phenomenon\, a story\, a person\, anything. You can think about what exactly you want to keep\, what story do you want to make visible? A phenomenon or thing can be small and tangible\, or large and abstract. An abstract thing can be\, for example\, a photo. Bring something that can be left in the hands of the facilitators or in a supervised space for the duration of the workshop. Items are returned to their owners after the end of the workshop and are treated with respect. DESCRIPTION:(Alla suomeksi) \nResidency for exploring\, sensing\, immersing and creating\nFive international artists from different backgrounds and skillsets will work together two weeks in a multidiscipline workshop in Turku\, Finland\, on the themes of equality and sustainability. Here you can find the artist introductions. \nDuring this creative process they will share with each other\, learn from each other and by the end create something special together. It can be a performance\, installation\, poem\, play script\, music\, reflection of their work\, work-in-progress  – nobody knows before they have processed and created it. According to the mentor of the residency\, puppeteer Maiju Tainio: “The emphasis will be in exploring tactile\, multisensory and immersive art. \n  \nShowcase is free and open for all\nThe result of the residency work will be presented on Thursday 5.9.2024 at 13.00-15.30 at the Turku Arts Academy (Linnankatu 54-60\, Turku). The performance will start from Köysiratagalleria at 13.00. Group’s working language is English. \nRegister here! \nYou are warmly welcome!\n  \nImmersiivisen\, tutkiskelevan ja luovan residenssityön lopputyö\nViisi nousevaa teatterialan kansainvälistä taiteilijaa erilaisista taustoista ja taiteen aloilta työskentelevät yhdessä syys-lokakuun vaihteessa kaksi viikkoa Turussa järjestettävässä monialaisessa residenssissä. Teemoina ovat tasa-arvo ja kestävyys. DESCRIPTION:Unsilenced Theatre\, a theatre group from Finland\, has collected untold stories from European people\, dived deeply into the historical events and explored the concept of memories and how we remember things. We have asked people what do they wish to remember and what are the things they wish to forgot? \nThe first artistic outcome of the documentary inspired material takes a form of a Historical Museum that examines the concept of forgotten memories and it may or may not remember things correctly. The Museum opens in September in Turku\, Finland 2024. DESCRIPTION:NOUSUT Festival 30.8.–1.9.2024\nNOUSUT Festival is a celebration and a platform for new theatre makers to take off\, create interesting performances supported by well merited theatre professionals. The festival is organized as part of the Theatre in Palm project (Theatre Movement) by Turku Arts Academy and Turku based theatre Tehdas Teatteri. \nThis year the festival gives the stage to 3 different\, new and intriguing original pieces\, all created by this year’s Turku Arts Academy graduates. \nPerformances\nAUTIO MAA (Empty Earth) by Meri Salo is a scorching hot dystopia about climate change that combines puppet and mask theater with ancient Greek inspired chorus. \nMÄDÄNNÄINEN by Petra Lumme deals with the individual grief process. A process that often happens just like the thing that caused it\, unnoticed and without warning. This show is a dive into grief\, its repressibility\, sensitivity and powerlessness. \n \n  \nPORTTI (THE GATE) by Tuomas Vainionpää is a story about a guard who realizes they have become part of a fascist dictatorship and its machinery of violence. This performance\, narrated through object theatre\, light\, sound\, and a single actor\, explores the development of an unnamed genocide in ten stages. \n \nNOUSUT is a unique festival born out of the need and desire to connect emerging theatre artists with the already established theatre makers. Or at least\, their quite well informed fantasy about it. They serve as a reflective mirror to our time.\nHalf a century ago\, in the year 1974 Sweden got it’s first cultural political programme\, aiming for diversity and progression. Today\, art is politically valued somewhat differently: like a basic industry akin to iron and wood. The ongoing debate in Sweden concerning how economic support influence artistic freedom provides crucial context for this performance. As crucial is the two artists burning desire to work together like it’s their last chance. \nThe production is a collaboration between the PotatoPotato and Nyxxx\, two artist collectives that have played an active role in shaping the professional independent performing arts scene in Sweden during the last fifteen years. \nJensen is an actress and curator interested in creating situations and context with a strong physical presence and to work in processes with an uncertain result to enable unknown expressions.\nPetrén is a multimedial director and writer whose work revolves around participation\, play and translation between inner and outer worlds. DESCRIPTION:Meet and reflect with Annika Bromberg and Petra Weckström\, two of the initiators of “Hållbart Kulturliv Nu” a newly started Swedish NGO aiming to become the unifying force towards a green transition in the Swedish cultural sector – with national and international bearing. \nThis workshop will consist of two parts. First you will learn more about Theatre Green Book by experiences from an inspiring international workshop held in Gävle by Folkteatern Gävleborg together with Assitej and Teateralliansen early this year. DESCRIPTION:What do the conditions look like today for theatre criticism around Europe? Are there differences in the forms it takes? What forms would we like it to take going forward\, and how can we work together to develop criticism’s ability to develop performing arts? \nIn the conversation\, meet theatre critics and performing artists from four different countries and discuss the prerequisites and possibilities of theatre criticism. \nThe conversation is moderated by Sandra Grehn\, who holds a PhD in Comparative Literature/Theatre Studies and is a lecturer at the University of Gothenburg and Stockholm University in Sweden. Through an artistic performance\, the focal points of a possible social and economic paradigm shift will be highlighted. \nAt a time when many people feel powerless in the face of global problems\, art can play a fundamental role in restoring understanding and hope. DESCRIPTION:The performance “Tu S.E.I. Antigone” combines theatre and social awareness. The performance connects the Antigone of the philosopher Sophocles with the speech by António Gutierrez\, current Secretary-General of the United Nations Secretary-General of the United Nations\, on climate change\, themes already dealt with in previous artistic residencies of the Theatre in Palm project which was decided given continuity and further artistic expression. \nThe main themes dealt with are: \n\nSocial Justice: Through Antigone by Sophocles\, we will reflect on the courage to oppose injustice.\nClimate Change: The speech by Gutierrez will help us better understand the urgency of the environmental crisis and the role of art in raising awareness and action.\n\nThe event aims to promote awareness on crucial issues and to engage the audience in a meaningful theatrical experience.The idea is to foster participation and collective action through art\, emphasizing the importance of environmental preservation. \nThe Happening is open to the public and represents a unique opportunity to deepen knowledge on topics of great relevance.
