SUMMARY:Falling softly workshop
DESCRIPTION:The workshop proposed by Alexandra invites you to discover gravity as an invisible structure\, an immaterial surface that can support you on your way to the ground. We can imagine it as a current we can softly navigate\, learning how to organize our bodies so that falling becomes a dance; so that its momentum propels us in a spiraling motion toward the ground; so that landing is not a destination but a springboard for the continuation of movement. \nEach of the two sessions will begin with an Awareness Through Movement lesson using the Feldenkrais Method. During these\, you will be guided to explore simple\, slow movements with the aim of perceiving movement as a process\, observing every stage of it\, and becoming aware of how you sense your body in motion. We will then work with rolling movements (judo rolls) and dynamic inversions (headstands\, handstands\, shoulder stands)\, diving into space with confidence to land on a soft and safe ground. The workshop will take place at the Judo Club Banat hall in the Iosefin District\, on a tatami floor. \nAlexandra Gîrbea is a choreographer recently based in Timișoara\, where she develops artistic and educational projects. She is focused on evolving her dance practice while also crafting a cultural strategy that integrates her knowledge\, intuitions\, and curiosities. She studied at the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy and is currently studying the Feldenkrais Method in Brussels. Her dance practice has always been strongly influenced by martial arts such as wushu\, tai chi\, aikido\, and capoeira.

DESCRIPTION:Led by Renato Curci Forum Theater Techniques and Theatrical Direction \nRenato Curci is an Italian author\, actor\, comedian\, and director\, as well as a member of SIAE (Italian Society of Authors and Publishers). His theatrical journey began at the age of seventeen and expanded in Paris\, where he deepened his knowledge of various theatrical techniques\, including cabaret\, mime\, grammelot\, and visual/puppetry theater. \nIn 2011\, his book Teatro di liberazione was published by Edizioni La Meridiana\, in which he shared his theatrical knowledge and practices. Renato is also active on social media\, with a presence on Facebook\, Instagram\, and TikTok\, where he shares updates on his performances and artistic projects. \nHis work spans theater\, cinema\, and television\, with a strong commitment to social causes\, using art as a tool for expression and liberation. \nWorkshop Structure \nThe workshop will focus on three fundamental aspects: \n\nTransmission of Forum Theater Techniques Over two days\, participants will be introduced to the essential techniques for creating Forum Theater performances. This involves staging real-life situations featuring injustice\, followed by audience improvisation aimed at altering the story. A shoe\, a handkerchief\, an apparently insignificant element become tools to explore and reveal hidden aspects of reality and human nature. \nThrough a succession of small wordless stories\, the show invites the audience to enter a timeless universe\, where comedy becomes a key to understanding the beauty of existence. Not an escape from reality\, but a way to rediscover the value of irony and wonder\, especially in an era where daily routines seem to dampen enthusiasm for life. \nBites of Watermelon is a poetic and visual journey that demonstrates how body language can communicate beyond words\, touching deep and universal chords. SUMMARY:The Body as a Home
DESCRIPTION:The human body is built to be in motion. This is one of the statements made by researchers that opened up new perspectives and horizons for me\, new needs for exploration on a physical and mental level. Through a series of somatic awareness practices inspired by somatic practices and experiential anatomy\, we will gradually connect with our senses\, muscles\, bones and fluids and find ways to probe the psyche and body to create a new language of movement and facilitate self-discovery. Starting from images of human anatomy we will work to broaden our sphere of perception and explore the messages of our body. For me\, this space where I discover internal mechanisms that sometimes seem magical or even surprising has always been a source of revelation and a “home”. I’d like to share with you this feeling of living in your own body\, a feeling that seems to me one of the only accessible resources of grounding and\, why not\, joy\, in the hectic times we live in. \nWe invite you to let yourself be transformed together by the organic inner and outer landscape and to let movement be born from unexpected areas of our self. \n  \nBIO \nCristina Lilienfeld (www.cristinalilienfeld.ro) studied choreography and psychology\, constantly searching for the point where the two disciplines meet. In recent years she has collaborated and continues to work with different choreographers and dancers\, but also with visual artists and musicians\, being part of several interdisciplinary artistic groups. In 2016 she was part of the Dance Roads program through which she traveled to five European countries presenting the show Lay(ers)\, and in 2022 of the Linha de Fuga program which took place in Coimbra\, Portugal. He has collaborated in a multitude of projects with choreographers such as: Cosmin Manolescu\, Valentina de Piante\, Alexandra Bălășoiu\, Mihaela Alexandra Dancs\, Benno Voorham\, Mădălina Dan\, Andreea Novac\, Andreea Belu\, Smaranda Găbudeanu\, Virginia Negru etc.\, with visual artists: Dilmana Yordanova\, Mihaela Kavdanska\, Alina Ușurelu etc.\, musicians: Diana Rotaru\, Irinel Anghel\, Vlaicu Golcea\, Kamer Art\, LeVant\, the Fierbinteanu band.

Discover how music can be a creative language for actors and a powerful element that enriches the theatrical stage. \nInformation about the artist\, Riccardo Bursi\nRiccardo Bursi is an actor\, musician\, and composer. He trained at the A. Peri Conservatory in Reggio Emilia\, the DAMS program in Bologna\, and the Paolo Grassi Civic School of Theatre in Milan. He teaches acting and voice at the MaMiMò Theatre Center and composes music for theatre productions and commercials. His work focuses on the intersection of music and theatre\, both in performance and pedagogy. DESCRIPTION:Opening: Friday\, November 15 at 7:00 p.m.\nPerformance: 7:30 p.m.\nLocation: Carrer d’Espronceda 326\, nave 5\, Barcelona\, Spain\nCuerpos Errantes is the translation of the Greek ‘plankton’\, describing a collection of organisms floating adrift. Their role in aquatic ecosystems\, especially marine ecosystems\, is essential\, as among other things they contribute to oxygen production\, carbon absorption and cloud formation. This experimental project\, the result of a collaboration between the Marine Sciences Institute (CSIC)\, Espronceda Institute of Art & Culture\, and the Inervo Company\, aims to make the invisible visible and explore through different performative audiovisual expressions the interconnection between the human and non-human worlds. Whatever doesn’t comply with the new order will be either consumed or annihilated. The people outside of the wall make the only possible choice – they follow the Spirit of the Sea into the waves to search for their new home. There\, in the underwater world\, they can find peace once again. But what happens when the city limits go beyond the borders of the land and into the waters? \nThe project is a part of the Theatre in Palm Residency researching the relationship between art and science. Using the power of myths and ancient storytelling\, it touches upon the topics of biodiversity\, interconnectivity\, and current ecological crises\, showing the invisible threads between the human and the marine ecosystem. DESCRIPTION:Digital Coffee Talk with Professor Arlene Holmes-Henderson\nDeveloping democracy and cultivating citizens: using ancient drama in the classroom\n🗓️ Thursday 17.10.2024  • 17:00 EEST (16:00 CET) • Zoom\n  \nIn this talk\, Professor Arlene Holmes-Henderson (Durham University) will outline the contribution of ancient Greek drama to the teaching of contemporary citizenship education. She will highlight opportunities to teach rights and responsibilities\, the treatment of newcomers\, power\, protest and performance. \nAncient plays (both tragedies and comedies) are full of rich themes which can be explored by teachers and students in innovative and creative ways. At a time when geopolitical events are affecting the daily lives of young people around the world\, Professor Holmes-Henderson encourages educators\, theatre practitioners and policy officials to use literature from the past as a focus for contemporary democratic education. Young people need to be able to critique information\, develop opinions and express themselves confidently. Greek drama\, argues Professor Holmes-Henderson\, provides an ideal disciplinary domain in which to cultivate these 21st century skills. \n  \nAbout the speaker\nArlene Holmes-Henderson is Professor of Classics Education and Public Policy at Durham University (UK) where she holds a British Academy Innovation Fellowship. After studying Classics at Oxford\, Harvard and Cambridge\, Arlene qualified as a schoolteacher and taught in high schools for more than a decade before returning to academia. \nArlene has conducted international comparative research in the USA as a Fulbright Scholar\, in Australia as a Churchill Fellow and in New Zealand as an Erskine Fellow. She is Vice-Chair of the Universities Policy Engagement Network with national responsibility for Arts and Humanities and is an expert advisor to international governments\, parliaments and assessment agencies. \nHer current project investigates the relationship between oracy\, rhetoric and critical skills. This dual operation raises critical questions about the role of art in shaping alternative imaginaries that can promote egalitarian\, cooperative\, and non-competitive values. Such reflections align with broader ecological concerns\, where understanding the interdependence of all living beings within their environments is essential for the preservation of ecosystems. \nDrawing on Lynn Margulis’ theory of endosymbiosis\, we recognize that the survival of species often depends on their ability to cooperate\, highlighting the profound relationality between all organisms. This relational perspective is echoed in Félix Guattari’s emphasis on the cognitive\, social\, and environmental dimensions of existence\, suggesting that the quality of these interconnections determines the sustainability of life. In the context of the current ecological crisis and the ongoing eco-social transition\, there is an urgent need to cultivate new cultural imaginaries. These imaginaries must expand the ethical framework to include the rights of all living and non-living entities\, allowing for a more holistic and inclusive approach to decision-making processes that will guide our collective future. \nTALK 1:\nNINE LAGOONS\nNine Lagoons is a multidisciplinary project centered on the figure of the gaucho leader Santos Guayama (San Juan\, Argentina\, 1830-1879?) and the Guanacache Lagoons\, which are now dry. The project seeks to revive the image of this popular figure from the western Argentine Cordillera as the leader of the first uprising for water rights in the country\, known as the “Lagunera Rebellion.” Additionally\, it emphasizes his mythological nature\, where he is referred to as “the man who died nine times.” Compositionally\, the number nine plays a significant role in organizing the materials. Four distinct projects have been developed so far around these themes: Nine Lagoons (dry theater\, 2019)\, Nine Lagoons: In the Footsteps (audiovisual documentary\, 2021)\, Nine Lagoons: Lagunera Diary (miscellaneous book\, 2022)\, and Nine Lagoons: Invocation (performative installation\, 2023). The project originated during the Ikarus creation residency at Odin Teatret (Denmark) in 2017\, developed further at the “No Tchon\, No Arte” formation and exchange residency (Guinea-Bissau\, 2018)\, and in San Juan\, Argentina. In addition to being featured at various festivals and presented in alternative contexts (rural schools\, prisons\, neighborhood associations\, etc.)\, the projects have received support from Argentina’s National Theater Institute. \nBenjamín Slavutzky\nAn experimental artist working across theater\, contemporary dance\, audiovisual media\, literature\, performance\, installation\, and sound art\, Benjamín Slavutzky seeks to break down barriers between disciplines. With a degree in Literature from UNSJ (Argentina)\, he has participated in performing arts research teams (DICDRA Project) and held both research and artistic creation fellowships. She is particularly interested in exploring life as a network of interdependence between living beings and nature\, using this approach as the central theme in her work. For her\, artistic practice is a form of philosophical reflection. Císcar believes that what we call “reality” is a precarious sum of fragments selected by the conditioning produced by the social and cultural context in which we are immersed. She sees awareness of this as fundamental for coexistence. Her pieces\, usually visually rich\, appeal to the sensory-emotional perception of the audience\, offering experiences in which ideas are conveyed through visual delight. Her work has been showcased at venues such as Mercat de les Flors\, Teatre Lliure\, the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico\, the Digital Culture Center\, the Chopo University Museum in Mexico City\, Carme Teatro in Valencia\, and Üferstudios in Berlin\, among others. DESCRIPTION:Unsilenced Theatre\, a theatre group from Finland\, has collected untold stories from European people\, dived deeply into the historical events and explored the concept of memories and how we remember things. We have asked people what do they wish to remember and what are the things they wish to forgot? \nThe first artistic outcome of the documentary inspired material takes a form of a Historical Museum that examines the concept of forgotten memories and it may or may not remember things correctly. The Museum opens in September in Turku\, Finland 2024.
