DESCRIPTION:International Ecoperformance Film Festival\nFor the first time in Europe\, the fourth edition of the festival will take place in Bucharest from June 11-14\, 2024. \nThe National Dance Center Bucharest will host the fourth edition of the International Ecoperformance Film Festival\, alongside its initiators\, Taanteatro\, and the Romanian edition organizers\, PLASTIC Art Performance Collective / Macaia Association. \nInaugurated in 2021 in São Paulo\, Brazil\, as an artistic response to the ecopolitical challenges of the 21st century\, the festival brings together films by interdisciplinary artists who work at the intersection of cinematic art\, performing arts\, and ecology\, investigating the tensions between environment\, body\, and ancestry in urban and virtual natural landscapes. \nThe workshops and the performative events of the festival are co-financed through the Theatre in Palm platform within the Local Theatre Lab\, partner Homemade Culture. \nYou can find the program here: Ecoperformance Film Festival.

DESCRIPTION:Within the framework of the Theater In Palm project and in collaboration with Konträr\, Intercult presents this spring’s fourth Theater Movement: Keeping Up With the Iranians at Konträr on June 14. A cracking party show that traces Iranian pop music history and invites you to dance\, dream and cake! \nFrom 18.00 onwards the audience is invited to a mingling with the opportunity to network with other theater enthusiasts and talk to Intercult about Theater in Palm and other European cultural projects. Take the opportunity to ask your questions about the Theater Academy  which\, among other things\, will be held at Konträr. \nAbout Keeping Up with the Iranians:\nShortly after the 1979 Iranian revolution\, the new leader\, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini\, banned music in the country\, equating it to opium. As a result\, many artists moved to Los Angeles to find new ways to make a living and practice their artistry in exile without the support they previously received from the authorities. This was often via recordings of\, and concerts of\, the dāmbuli dimbol music genre \, as that was the music people danced to at mehmooni (a social event where you are invited to someone’s home for dinner\, dancing\, celebrating\, etc.). It is a fugitive culture of dance\, music and joy\, and it has long been dismissed as apolitical and poisoned art by intellectuals\, Marxists\, Islamists and Westerners. But with the help of illegal dissemination\, it has found its way back to Iran and become mainstream culture behind closed doors. Repression has made this music signify secret community and freedom – a catalyst for realizing one’s dreams. \nThe performance Keeping Up with the Iranians takes its roots in this part of music history by recreating a mehmooni with world-renowned singers Setareh and Poupak\, chart-topping pianist Fereshteh and renowned choreographer Dancing Dina\, who come all the way from Los Angeles to visit.
