DISCOVERY OF TOGETHERNESS, February 2023 Stokholm

My name is Philippe, I am a 22 years old VFX student. I have studied many other domains, such as Photography, Graphic Design and Web Design. I have also worked with ETFI, the European Theatre and Film Institute. I have participated in the Interdisciplinary dialogue, in which I learned a bunch about Sound Design, Script Writing and physical acting. I also participated in the Cannes Modules project, in which I travelled to the Cannes Festival with two other students to do a lot of interviews with actors, writers and directors. At the end of that week, we had enough footage to do a small reportage about our trip there.
I want to have some experience in the VFX domain. That is the main reason that I wanted to go and discover other VFX companies abroad and wanted to participate to the Project «Theatre In Palm». To have a wider experience on VFX is very important to me. The trip of this discovery was planned through GO AND SEE programming of the THEATRE IN PALM PLATFORM for emerging artists support and resilience. My hosts were well established TIP partner organisation INTERCULT specialising in connecting ART and TECHNOLOGY, THEATRE and TECH INNOVATIONS.

That’s why I really feel alike with them. They introduced me into their world and helped me to build a full program of meetings with filmmakers, film 3d animation companies and VFX producers in Stokholm.
I have learned many things through this week. Difference between Swedish and Belgian VFX, work, planning, industry, mentality, creativity, finance, works. During this week, I have learned that there are many differences between the way the VFX companies work and the way we work at our school. For example, in a studio a visited, they use different programs to render some 3D model, they also work all together on almost everything whereas, in our school, we mainly work alone on our projects. In the future, to be more professional in my work, I want to first work in a studio like the ones I visited, but my final goal is to become an independent VFX artist and do way more personal projects.
