OCEÁNIDA

In May 2024, ESPRONCEDA Institute of Art & Culture in Barcelona, Spain, hosted Oceánida, a groundbreaking artistic performance by Inervo Company that merges dance, theatre, performance, and installation to highlight the impact of waste production on marine ecosystems.

In a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly crucial, Oceánida emerges as a groundbreaking artistic endeavor that combines dance, theatre, performance, and installation to raise awareness about the devastating effects of waste production on our marine ecosystems. Created by Inervo Company, this medium-sized performance is the first to incorporate a biodegradable and water-soluble set design, alongside sustainable LED lighting, as an integral part of its ecological message.
Through an evocative and sensory experience, the audience is transported into the depths of the ocean, where the bioluminescence of marine creatures serves as a visual and emotional metaphor for the consequences of plastic and other waste invading our oceans.
In Oceánida, the movement of performers tells a story that literally illuminates the stage, with lights generated by the dancers’ own bodies, merging art and sustainability in a visually stunning proposal.

Interdisciplinary research lies at the heart of this project. Inervo delves into relevant themes such as ecology, feminism, and science, creating an artistic language that goes beyond entertainment. In this case, the set design and materials used, such as recycled plastic and biodegradable elements, emphasize the company’s commitment to sustainability, offering a profound reflection on how art can both reflect our reality and act as a catalyst for change.
With Oceánida, Inervo presents a performance that pushes the boundaries of theatre and dance and also invites audiences to reconsider their relationship with the environment and their responsibility toward it.
