“Orpheus” – A Spectacle of Music, Myth, and Theatrical Magic

Ruse, Bulgaria
On February 20, 2025, the stage of the Puppet Theater – Ruse transformed into a mythical realm with the stunning performance of “Orpheus”. Organized by OECON Group Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Fashion Association as a local theatre movement and a part of the Theatre in Palm project, this spectacle captivated its audience with its poetic and theatrical brilliance, as well as with its unique mosaic-like visual style.
“Orpheus” is far from an ordinary theatre performance. It is a panopticon of theatrical expression—a breathtaking fusion of movement, mask play, puppetry, and powerful symbolism. Each scene unveils a different layer of Orpheus’s timeless legend and explores the themes of love, loss, and the fragile, yet unyielding human spirit.

At its core, the performance explores the divine nature of music—a force that both uplifts and torments, a gift that grants power but also demands sacrifice. The tragic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice unfolds not only as a myth of separation and fate but as a reflection on the eternal struggle between hope and despair, creation and destruction, light and darkness.
The production’s musical composition blends original pieces with the most iconic themes from Christoph Gluck’s opera “Orpheus and Eurydice”. This monumental musical landscape reinforces the performance’s emotional intensity. Each note resonates with the celestial essence of Orpheus’s legendary lyre, echoing the idea that, despite his divine talent, man remains a fleeting spark in the vast cosmos.

Not only did “Orpheus” retell an ancient legend—it brought its artists and its audience through an immersive journey through the power of art, music, and storytelling. With its stunning visual compositions, thought-provoking symbolism, and emotionally charged performances, it left audiences enchanted and deeply moved.
The performance stands as a shining example of Theatre in Palm’s mission to connect cultures and celebrate the transformative nature of theatre. It is a reminder that, much like Orpheus’s song, great art continues to echo across time, touching hearts long after the final curtain falls.
