Radiorator: Exploring the Invisible through Sound and Technology

As part of the European project Theatre in Palm, Espronceda Institute of Art & Culture presented Radiorator, a visionary performance created by multidisciplinary artist Agustina Palazzo. This event became a fascinating encounter between art, science, and technology, challenging our perceptions of the invisible world that surrounds us.
Radiorator transported attendees to a space where the boundaries between the physical and the digital disappear. Through artistic and technological intervention, radio frequencies—invisible electromagnetic waves—were transformed into a sonic and visual experience that connected participants with a universe that, while always present, often goes unnoticed.
The Helmet as an Extension of the Human Body
At the heart of this experience was a futuristic helmet designed by Palazzo using 3D printing. This wearable device, beyond being an artwork in itself, captured radio frequencies and transformed them into unique sounds, immersing the audience in a real-time composition.

The helmet’s design, inspired by constructivist aesthetics, reflected an interest in functionality and also in the geometric beauty of sound waves. Equipped with SDR (Software Defined Radio) technology, the device expanded human sensory capabilities by making visible and audible what typically escapes our senses.
A Dialogue Between Art, Technology, and Philosophy
Beyond its innovative technological approach, Radiorator offered a deep reflection on transhumanism—the idea that technology can extend and transform the human experience. In this performance, the technological tools were not just instruments; they became extensions of the body and mind, inviting us to reinterpret our relationship with the environment and the invisible systems that sustain it.
Agustina Palazzo turned the intangible into something tangible, inviting the audience to “hear” the environment in a completely new way. The sounds generated from the radio frequencies varied according to the location, creating a unique sound map for each space. This not only provided a sensory journey but also invited reflection on the invisible networks that connect people and objects in the digital age.

The Vision of Agustina Palazzo
Agustina Palazzo is a multidisciplinary artist and cultural manager born in Córdoba, Argentina, whose work explores the boundaries between sound art, technology, and performance. Her career began in 2010 when she started her studies in Audiovisual Communication, where she began experimenting with visual and sound languages, developing a series of works and research videos. This first contact with the world of digital and experimental art led her to found APOLO 91.7 FM, a cultural radio station dedicated to alternative and emerging music, which also became a space for experimenting with radio art and sound.
In 2017, Agustina moved to Barcelona to deepen her training in new technologies and interactive media by enrolling in the “Master’s in Advanced Interaction” at IAAC (Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia), where she graduated with academic honors. It was there that she developed her project Radiocosmosuit at the “Augment Senses” studio, marking a milestone in her career as an artist and technologist.
In addition to her artistic work, Agustina has worked as a cultural manager in various contexts, collaborating with festivals like MUTEK.ES and actively participating in the creation of programs linking digital technology with the academic and artistic communities. Between 2019 and 2020, she was an artist-in-residence at Piramidón Centre for Contemporary Art, where her work was presented at exhibitions and residencies in several countries, including the LLUM Festival, SONAR+D, and RESHAPE.
Throughout her international career, Agustina has presented her work at renowned festivals and exhibitions in Europe and Latin America, including IMMENSIVA at Espronceda, Tsonami Arte Sonoro (Chile), Rake Community (UK), Teorema (Spain), and Millesuoni (Italy), among others. In 2019, her project Radiorator won third place in the Wearable Technology category at the Reshape festival and was selected for the IMMENSIVA residency at Espronceda, where she presented the performance SPECTRUM as part of the “Quintessence Dome Lab” program within the Barcelona Solar Orchard Garden at Ars Electronica.

Agustina Palazzo’s work is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach encompassing performance, installation, video, sound, and archives, with a strong interest in the physical and symbolic implications of technology in contemporary society. Her projects explore the relationship between the individual and the digital environment, merging the analog and digital to create unique sensory experiences that invite reflection on the impact of technology in everyday life.
Agustina Palazzo’s work highlights the power of art to expand our perceptions and question the boundaries between the human, the technological, and the universal.
Espronceda celebrates such projects, which, in addition to being deeply innovative, open new avenues for interaction between art, science, and technology.
