S.O.P. – Some Other Place at Espronceda

ESPRONCEDA Institute of Art & Culture in Barcelona, Spain was the stage for a unique experience with the performance S.O.P. – Some Other Place, a choreographic creation by the talented Italian artist Sara Sguotti. This event took us on a journey of spatial, emotional, and imaginative exploration.

S.O.P. revealed new ways of connecting the performer, space, and imagination. In a seemingly empty environment, Sguotti’s dancing body transformed the space into an intimate and ever-changing stage, guiding the audience through a labyrinth of evocative and deeply impactful movements.

The live score by Spartaco Cortesi added a dynamic, resonant layer to the performance, while Sguotti’s commanding presence and expressive gaze encouraged the audience to explore “some other place,” a visionary realm where memory and foresight converged. Her choreographic language seamlessly blended lightness, strength, and a profound sensitivity to the human experience.

Sara Sguotti: An Innovative Artistic Voice

The presentation of S.O.P. at Espronceda underscored Sara Sguotti’s distinctive artistic identity. Born in Padua in 1990, Sara has cultivated an international career defined by her exploration of the body—both individual and collective—and the narratives it embodies. Her choreographic practice examines social, hierarchical, and spatial dynamics, infusing her work with depth and originality.

From her early steps as a dancer and choreographer, Sara embraced collaboration as a central value. She creates her works in dialogue with artists and directors such as Giovanni Sabelli Fioretti and Giuseppe Esposito, who lead Perypezye Urbane, while maintaining ongoing partnerships with creators like Elena Giannotti, Spartaco Cortesi, Mattia Bagnoli, Arianna Ulian, and Manuel Cascone.

Her rich experience includes performing with renowned companies and choreographers such as Virgilio Sieni Company, Anton Lachky Company, Damien Jalet, and Roberto Magro. She also appeared in Luca Guadagnino’s film Suspiria.

Sara’s choreographic works, such as S.solo (2017), S.rituale, Tuttuno, Space Oddity, and Dedica Lontana, have garnered critical acclaim. Her 2021 creation HOP, a community-centered piece for the Dance Well group in Bassano del Grappa, and her production of VENTIVENTI for the OpusBallet company, further showcase her dedication to innovation and connection.
