Theatre as a bridge: MaMiMò’s vision of learning, exchange and collective creation in Europe

Fabio Banfo, head of adult courses at the MaMiMò Theatre Center of Reggio Emilia, actor and playwright involved by E35 Foundation in the Theatre in PALM project, discusses the value of mutual learning. Experiences like these not only offer the opportunity to share artistic paths and pedagogical knowledge with young artists from across Italy and abroad, but also provide fresh ideas and challenges through continuous interaction with different generations and artistic visions.
Artistic residencies foster cultural exchange, where each encounter becomes a discovery—it is a discovery to open up to new perspectives, but also to see the affirmation of what one believes in. Becoming part of a European project amplifies the meaning of one’s work, creating a larger resonance and expanding opportunities for interaction and exchange.
Sharing one’s knowledge and art means contributing to a dialogue that goes beyond a single project, pursuing collective research and experimentation that tackles urgent issues like climate change and social justice—topics that concern us all, not just as artists but as human beings. Artistic creation and thinking, by making their way into the minds and hearts of all of us, offer new ways to view the world from other perspectives and to approach these issues with even greater sensitivity.
