Wet experience
Written by Sara Lisanti, participant of CUBE’s Residency
My overall experience during the residency was very positive, in changing as fast as water teaches. I think I will continue to investigate this theme, in an intimate and individual way that, I have discovered, is close to my heart. So I also thank this residency for this opportunity and then I thank Thessaloniki, because it gave me beautiful gifts for the eyes and soul.
I keep saying it: the wreck on the beach sums me up a lot. I worked on myself to have no expectation of it, and I’m glad for the result!
I’ve founded interested to see my limits and push the boundaries of my own way of creating, generally in solitude, and see myself expand in a community. Sometimes I didn’t like it. Sometimes the opposite.
I found it interesting to see the way in which the times of absorption and creation were courted and respected. It could teach not to be in a hurry in a time of creation, but to wait for things to settle down in the deep, to rise up in a new pattern: the idea!
Then, listen and speak with some guests was another opportunity to try to expand the network. However, the contacts with many kinds of artists was, of course, a new skill!
About the residential program I loved the day in the Hamam Rituals Exploration. Not for the relax that I hate, but for intimate moment between myself and the water in its different shapes! It was a great moment to see on zoom the water and feel it. It was a nice intimate moment between me and the water.
About the water, the geographical location of the city contributed to the development process, as did the daily assignment of exploratory exercises. Meeting other artists was really a great networking opportunity: I’ve already thought about projects with some of the artists that I’ve meet!
I hope to realize a new project with some of the people from the residency and to perform again in Salonicco. I hope that the residency will be also a springboard or a widespread network of worldwide contacts. I recommend the residency because it was a great moment to create in common. I didn’t recommend it only if someone has a clear and individual project to develop by himself. Otherwise, it was a perfect artistic and personal time.
I recommend going as a blank sheet, so as to enjoy all the beauty that the residence can give.
As a side project, it would be nice to expand and defend the project created during the residency, also thanks to the worldwide (rather than intimate personal) interest theme.
Performing in another country was a great experience to get in contact with a different culture and listen different feedback.
